I haven't been able to take many pictures of newborns, so I was excited to take this little guys photo. It's good to have to stretch creatively sometimes. I was sick and so I have to admit it might not have been the best shoot prop wise ( I guess we could have thrown some power tools in there, I'm sure his dad wouldn't have minded) ...but sometimes the simplier the better. I think he did great!

These two little angels are the pride of my life. I finally was able to book in a session for my own children and the pictures could not have turned out better. With the great bribe of a Frosty, my four year old who hates the camera, smiled and was most pleasant. The one who loves the camera, my youngest, was as delightful as ever. They are the most handsome subjects I have photographed thus far (no offense to those that I have, but I'm allowed to be biased!) I hope you all enjoy the photos as much as I do.

My beautiful little sister is getting married in a couple of months. I was able to take a couple of pictures for their announcement (if they so choose to use them :0) While we were in Utah we got to stay a whole week with my family up in ogden canyon. It was so much fun. The pictures were taken there....at the golf course, after hours. It was a lot of fun, they make a good couple, and I'm sure it's not just because I'm biased.
I will be posting all the random shots I took in utah soon, I just have to plow through the hundreds of them and find ones that are worthy :0) So stay posted, and you may even see a picture or two with me in it.

Fireworks, Freedom, Friends, and Fun

The weather was fantastic....that is the first thing that I have to say. We could not have asked for a more clear, bright, beautiful day to celebrate our freedom. In the morning we went to a parade. The boys loved it (mostly because we aquired more candy than a typical halloween night) and so did we. It was so much fun to hang out with friends and enjoy time as a family. Our two most favorite things at the parade were the group of shopping carts (I know random) and the old fashioned bycicles.

After the parade we went home and took nice long naps (another favorite). Then we had a BBQ with some friends and did some little fireworks so that the ones that go to bed early (6:00) could see them. We all loved the sparklers, especially the Buns and the Bumbles, who didn't quite know what to think.

Then we waited until it was dark, I know this may sound odd, but it was the first time that the Buns saw lightning bugs. Him and dad had a fun time catching them, watching them glow, and then letting them go. As soon as it was dark we did the our own fireworks, most of them were cheap lame ones but the Buns loved them. He went to bed exhaused and happy.

On Saturday night we went to a fireworks display I discoverd while browsing online (I told the Buns that we would and so I was frantacially looking for 'big' fireworks) These were to be over a lake and only a 20 minute drive and free admission. We had no idea what to expect (and I didn't take my camera, I'm so mad) but when we got there we discovered it was a lake where most of the water front was privately owned. Large houses were all along the shore. We had no idea where to park, so we parked in someone's driveway as far out of the way as possible and made our walk to the lake. We passed pary after party all happening at peoples homes. We set up our chairs on some lawn and were immediately approached by the home owner. He said we couldn't sit there, I asked him if there was anywhere we could sit and he pointed 15 feet over to the left and said that ther was a 20 ft easement over there...(I was desperate to roll my eyes, but restrained) When the fireworks came on they were fantastic. It was the BEST show I had ever seen (and I have seen a lot....Harrisburg PA, New York City, New York, Stadium of Fire etc...) We were so close, and they were SO BIG. The buns was absolutely thrilled (and still thanks Heavenly Father in his prayers that we could go see the fireworks and the boats) The atmosphere was priceless and the whole evening was spectacular. We are definitely going back next year! It was also one of the first night the Buns saw the stars.

We are so lucky to live in the country we do, to experience the freedoms we have, and the witness the blessings of both of these on a daily basis.

A few months ago I was able to take this girl's little sister's pictures. They are such beautiful children and I'm so thankful I've had the opportunity to work with them. She was so pleasant and loved her picture taken. Oh to have such blond hair!!! I love these pictures and was finally able to use the logo my brother so graciously created for me( and will help a ton with my spelling errors of ann-marie photography). Thanks brother!

My Two Boys

It's been a while since I last posted. Life is kinda crazy. We are in the middle of moving and so I have been frantically packing. The Buns is taking swim lessons everyday this week, and the Bumbles is getting around really well. The other day The Buns forgot to shut the door to the the long flight of wooden stairs that lead to the basement, baby brother decided to follow and suddenly I heard sickening thuds tumbling down the stairs. I reached them in time to see baby brother hit the last four stairs. Luckily he went down hot dog style instead of end over end and so most of the damage were bruises (seven to be specific) all around his really big head (I knew that my children had HUGE heads for a reason :0). We took him to the doctor and all was well. We now make sure the door is closed ALL the time. I sure do love my boys and am thankful that although they try to kill themselves at least twice a day they are safe and still around!!

Yellow Flowers in May

This was a different kind of photoshoot, one I usually only have with my oh so stubborn son who absolutely despises the camera. Needless to say I got the joy of taking photos of not just one child who isn't so fond of the camera, but two. These two sisters were so funny. It was a fun challenge to capture their bursting personalities. We had a fun time, despite the small incident of the younger one being kicked in the head by her sister (which was actually my fault). But between a few tears, and some major bribing we got some gorgeous photos. I absolutely adore these pictures, you can tell that these two do not lack the talent of fulfulling every minute of life!

It's been a while since I last posted any pictures. A lot of that has to do with the fact that my 30 day trial for photoshop ran out. Another reason is that a pole ran into our van while I was backing out of our parking lot. I guess the pole knew we had just paid it off. Therefore, the money that was going to go towards the big photoshop purchase was instead used for a deductable payment to fix the van (yes the dent was that big...we had to make a claim, I'm shaking my head right now just remembering it all). But that is a story I'd rather forget. These pictures are some that my mother in law has been begging I take. They had the luck to go to Hawaii about three weeks ago and bought the cutest matching outfits for our boys. I told levi he could have ice cream for breakfast if he let me take pictures of them together. He held still only long enough for me to get 1 good picture of the two of them (and yes he did eat ice cream for breakfast). As you can see in the one with only him, his arms are still a going! The only other time he held still was when he noticed that the bumbles was getting more attention from the camera than him and he jumped in front of the baby so HE could have a picture(that is the picture where he looks like the devil and the bumbles is peeking from behind). Needless to say my two boys are now constantly moving (that's right, the bumbles is finally crawling), and wrestling, and having a good time. I love my boys!

I had to post these two pictures to show everyone that we are finally getting a tast of spring. Yipee!!!!

Pretty in Pink

A friend of ours from dental school just had their fourth baby...a beautiful baby girl! And she is BEAUTIFUL!! (I may just be slightly jealous she gets to dress her baby in pink :0) She is such a doll. We went over there to welcome her into the world and the mommy was nice enough to let me take pictures of her precious little one. I loved it mostly because I can't seem to find enough reasons to shoot with my new lens..(have I mentioned yet that I LOVE IT!), and what better thing to take photos of then a tiny little baby. But no matter what kind of equiptment you have on your camera...you can't make the subject any more beautiful than they already are...congrats to the family of this adorable little bundle.

Here are some more. I'm sorry they are all of the same model...but he is the only one that will cooperate!!! (I guess three year olds don't like their picture taken) I also was able to pick my brother's and my dad's brain today to learn some more photoshop tricks. Between them and the fact that I'm learning how to use my reflector I feel like these turned out pretty good. (plus I think the model is just to die for!) I love my fat little one.

Oh Baby

So It was finally sunny in Michigan, YEAH!!!! So I ceased the chance (or day, whatever pops into your head) and practiced using my reflector that I got for Christmas. I took Isaac upstairs (he is the only one that will cooperate with me) and did a little photo shoot. It was great. As you can see all of the light was coming into the room from the window behind Isaac and to the left. I used the reflector in different positions, and I think I found the right way to pop the light into their eyes.

This is a picture of Isaac AMAZED and whatever Levi was doing over on the other side of the bed. I bounced light into the back of his head so that there were no dark shadows so the exposure would be even.

This one is a little blurry, but although Isaac was looking up I managed to pop some light into his eyes, although I think it was a little too much.

This I should have had the reflector a little lower so the light would come up into his face instead of down. With this paticular photo, you can see his eyelashes are filtering the light. Although I have to say I love that it looks like he is hugging the camera.

I love this one. Levi shared his train and this is how Isaac plays. He eats everything! The light is good and I was able to get the light right on his face although the real light is coming in from the window behind him.

Levi threw the pillow into this one because he was being a little naughty. But I like this photo so I posted it anyway! I just think he is so darn cute!

This is a picture without the reflector, so you can see how much light it does put into their eyes and faces. You can see that he is only highlighted on one side, but his eyes are very dark and don't look good at all compared to the other photos.

I personally think this is the best one. I really like where the light is in his eyes, it is just the right amount. Now I just have to practice reproducing it. But I tell you what, trying to hold a reflector and a camera is hard. Not to mention that mainting a three year old (who is destroying the world around him) and keeping a 6 month old happy and looking at the camera, is not an easy task. I wish I would have listened to Logan and gotten a stand, but the laundry basket works just as well right?

My friend enlightened me about free trials...yeah...so I downloaded the free trial of photoshop CS3...and I'm addicted already and I've just barely touched the surface of everything it can do. Here are a few pictures I tinkered around with (while Levi destroyed the basement and Isaac napped).
Also, today Isaac ate his sock for 20 minutes...he loved it. Levi lined all his race cars in a row. I did dishes. These are a few pictures of what I see around the house everyday. Ah the small wonders of life.

Yesterday there was some pretty good lighting and I wanted to try out my new reflector. So I convinced Levi that taking pictures was worth it and told him I would play with him for as long as he wanted if you would just sit still and let me take pictures of him. Surprisingly enough it worked and I got enough photos for the new frame thing I'm going to do (thanks to Janna) So I'm really happy how they turned out and thought I would post them and share. I can't help it I just think I have the cutest boys in the world (and enough pictures of them to back that up!)

A lot of my friends have been bugging me to do a blog..little did they know that I have already done one. I was trying it out to be a way to advertise my photography. I think I will still do that by posting pictures of my children as well as some pictures that I have taken for other people.

I don't really know what to say as this is the first time that I have sat down and decided make my blog known. This last holiday I have really been enjoying my family. For the first time since we have been married, Logan and I, decided to stay home and not fly out to see family. Our little levi, who is now three, was really getting the idea of Santa and we wanted to just enjoy him all to ourselves (a little selfesh, but we know that).

It was worth it. Levi really enjoyed the spirit of Christmas. Today I took the tree down and all the decorations. He came up to me and said "Mama, I'm sad" "Why are you sad" "Because I love Christmas" He then proceeded to hide his favorite tree ornament where I couldn't see it becuase I was too "taller" (I found it while I was cleaning after he went to bed...it was underneath the piano bench)

Isaac is just a big fat happy baby. Nothing makes him giggle more that to give him your hand to play with , or better yet your foot. He just sits wherever I put him and enjoys life. He sleeps great, and just last night he spent the whole night in his new room with Levi. We finally put up the real crib since he was beginning to out grow the basinet. They both did really well and slept until 6:30.

Life is really good for us right now...we are happy and healthy and really just enjoying each other. I wouldn't want it any other way.

First Time Photographer

For about five years now I have been interested in photography. I got my first nice film camera about five years ago. Every now and then I would take pictures for people (family) and frame them. But with film it was really hard to get the pictures I wanted...plus I didn't have the programs or software to fix them up. Recently for Christmas I got my first nice digital camera and have been experimenting and learning ever since. My goal and dream is to be able to shoot photographs for people and have them turn out with professional quality. I'm on my way but I still have a lot to learn. I felt like posting them on a blog I would be able to see my improvements and also get feed back from other people.

The first pictures are some girls that live right here close to me. Their mother asked if I would take some pictures for their Christmas card. It was a quick photo shoot and I didn't have enough time to really test the lighting or even get to know my camera for that matter. But somehow with a strain of luck they turned out decent. Looking back there are a few things I would do differently. I would iron my backdrop and get rid of he wrinkles...and also I would have the subject further away from the back drop so that the background was a lot more unfocused. Some of the photos actually turned out this way...but not on purpose.

The next set of photos are a little boy that I babysit for. I took his one year old pictures. This one I also would have ironed the back drop...wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles!!!!!! I won't make that mistake again. Also the light was definitely more on one side. Although this can be used as a creative style for these photos I should have reflected more light onto the other side so that it was a little more even. Because of the light imbalance you can see that have of the photo is a little over shot while the other half is just right. I couldn't decide whether it was better to have the one half a little darker and the light side exposed properly, or over expose the bright side and have the dark side correctly exposed. I choose to have a little over exposure, but still don't know which I like better.

The last set of photos are of a neighbor girl playing outside in the sprinklers. I was just messing around with some automatic features in my camera as opposed to manual. I'm still a little slow in getting the shutter

speed, f-stop, and ISO to work well together, and how to get all the information with the correct exposure. I have found that lighting is everything though, and now my main goal is to get the best lighting...always, and to work with what I have and figure out how to make it the right light

I will be taking pictures of some really cute twins soon, so those will be posted shortly (with the back drop ironed, and hopefully the light evenly distributed).
